Writing cowboys!

Since this blog hop is about westerns, I thought I'd write about writing westerns! Hey, what a concept, huh?

I do love to write westerns. They are my favorite book to right. No, I don't have to do a lot of research on them while I'm writing, because I know cowboys, horses, ranching to some extent and since it's part of who I am, I'm comfortable writing it.

Where do I get my ideas? I get them from everywhere. I hear a song and it'll spark an idea. I see a person at the airport and it'll spark an idea. Many of my stories have come from song titles or pictures. I currently have two pictures on my office wall. One is a group of 9 cowboys. No, they don't all look like they are related, but they sparked the idea for Cowboy Dreamin'. 3 of them look like they could be triplets, thus my triplets in the series, Joel, Jason and Joshua. Only Joel has his own story right now.

That brings me to the other picture on my wall. It's of a guy who is Joel to me. He has the most amazing blue eyes! Wow! I mean really, wow!

Sorry, I can't find the picture on my computer right at the moment.

Anyway, the guys in this series are a complicated bunch. Jeff's the oldest and his story will release in late August called Healing the Cowboy's Heart. Joel's is already out called Make Mine a Cowboy. (which I'm giving away a three signed ebooks to three lucky winners so leave a comment!)

Available at Secret Cravings Publishing, Amazon, B&N, Smashwords, Itunes, Diesel, Bookstrand, All Romance Ebooks and several other ebook retailers near you!

Now for a few questions from me ~

What do you look for in a cowboy romance?

Do you want lots of western stuff in your cowboy romance?

Does the hero have to be a cowboy?

Give me your opinion!

Love you all!

~ Sandy

I love your westerns! Make mine a cowboy.... wow! Am I ever glad that Mesa got herself stuck in the middle of nowhere and the Joel found her! LOVE Joel!! Was hoping you'd write on the other brothers, so I'm looking forward to Jeff's story.
I've read several of your westerns. I do enjoy westerns which are historical and therefore generally have a lot of western stuff in them. Yet, I truly enjoy yours which are set in the modern day some putting cowboys into urban setting, but always knowing the cowboy is a cowboy is a cowboy, even if said cowboy doesn't ranch full time. My heroes in the western must be a cowboy... I like them the way you write them: Tall, broad shouldered, strong, boots, jeans, hat (rodeo buckle & rope - optional), and SEXY to the bone! Thanks for tons of enjoyable reading time!

In a cowboy romance, I look for an alpha male (of course!) and a strong, opinionated female. The male has to be a cowboy, and I don't mind if the girl is a "cowgirl" either. I love all types of historical romances and period pieces, so I'd rather the cowboys be in the wild, wild west! The hero has to be a cowboy! That's what makes it a cowboy romance! Nothing is sexier than a man who works with his hands ;)

I love having the hero be a cowboy. I don't care if its historical or modern, as long as he can ride a horse and treat a woman right! I think I was influenced too much by all the horse operas I watched as a child!

A cowboy in a book is hot, the tight jeans with of course the belt buckle, cowboy hat and muscles who wouldn't like them. Make them Alpha but sensitive very, very HOT!!!!!

How did I not know these books existed. I LOVE cowboy stories. I live as far away from cowboy country as you can get and it is just a wonderful escape for me. I like the hero or heroine to be a cowboy - the hero can be someone who comes to the ranch but easily settles into the cowboy way. I love to read them because a cowboy always knows how to treat a lady and the voice in my head always is wonderful.

I'm cowboy to the bone--born and bred! I want a real cowboy who knows horses and cattle in my romances. I toss ones that are fake, and I can spot 'em a mile off!
your books sound like some I would like!

Oh, I have been wanting to read this one since I saw the cover. I love a good cowboy romance...the cowboy doesn't have to be the hero, but it's a definite bonus. :D

I love anything about cowboys! I love to see a sexy cowboy sitting on his horse with his hat pulled low watching his herd of cows! I'm not picky about the western stuff, I love it all. Nah the hero doesn't have to be the cowboy. I love a story that catches me from the first page. Thanks for the giveaway!
